David is the fixed income asset class lead in our Global Manager Research group and the head of research technology.
David Zee, CFA, is a senior vice president, fixed income asset class lead in Callan’s Global Manager Research group, and head of research technology, a role he was promoted to in 2022. He is a shareholder of the firm.
David drives the fixed income market research, identifies emerging themes within the asset class, and collaborates with Callan’s Capital Markets Research team on manager structure best practices. He is also involved in mentoring and training new hires. As an investment consultant, he is responsible for researching and analyzing fixed income and private credit investment managers, and assists plan sponsor clients with manager searches. David meets regularly with investment managers to develop an understanding of their strategies, products, investment policies, and organizational structures.
As the head of research technology, he leads the ongoing enhancement and implementation of research processes and technology to drive efficiency, scalability, and capabilities across all areas of asset class coverage and manager due diligence. His expanded responsibilities include developing best practices for capturing research data/knowledge, and advocating on behalf of all research groups for new technological tools and enhancing third-party data integration in order to efficiently deliver high-quality research solutions to Callan’s clients.
Prior to joining Callan in 2018, David was a vice president at Wilshire Associates, a member of its Fixed Income Manager Research group, and a voting member of its investment committee and investment strategy committee. Prior to Wilshire, he was a portfolio manager and strategist at Payden & Rygel where he co-managed a top-down, portable alpha global equity strategy. David has also worked at Wells Fargo as a portfolio manager and research analyst.
David received his MBA in finance from Loyola Marymount University, and graduated with a BS in biology and a minor in economics from the University of California, San Diego. He is a holder of the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member of CFA Institute and CFA Society Los Angeles.
