David focuses on private equity research as a member of our Private Markets Consulting Group.
David Smith, CFA, CTP, CFA, CTP, is a senior vice president on Callan’s Private Equity Consulting Team. David joined Callan in 2021, and his work spans strategic planning, portfolio construction, manager due diligence, and ongoing monitoring. David leads Callan’s research efforts for small buyouts and co-investments, as well as European, healthcare, and financials strategies. He serves as the lead consultant for multiple private equity clients, providing strategic guidance on the development and implementation of their programs. David is a member of Callan’s Nonprofit Group and is a shareholder of the firm.
Prior to joining Callan, David was the treasurer for Syracuse University. Before that, he was a partner at Bay Hills Capital Management, a private equity fund-of-funds manager.
David earned an MBA from the Syracuse University School of Management and a BBA from Western Illinois University. He is a holder of the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member of CFA Institute and CFA Society New York. He also holds the Certified Treasury Professional designation.
