David is a senior private markets consultant in Callan’s Alternatives Consulting group.
David Smith, CFA, CTP, is a senior vice president and private markets consultant in Callan’s Alternatives Consulting group. He joined Callan in April 2021, and his role includes implementing private markets portfolios, as well as client servicing, strategic planning, and manager evaluations, for a variety of clients including endowments, foundations, and nonprofits.
Prior to joining Callan, David was the treasurer for Syracuse University, where he was responsible for treasury and investment operations management, and the strategic vision for the Endowment Administration, Debt Financing, Bursar, Student Debt, and Cash Operations departments. Additionally, he was a member of the Trustee Investment and Endowment Committee, focusing on asset allocation, manager selection, performance measurement, and spending models.
Prior to Syracuse University, he was a partner at the private equity firm Bay Hills Capital Management, where he provided executive leadership to clients across North American lower-middle market buyout segment including primary and secondary fund investments and co-investments.
David earned an MBA from the Syracuse University School of Management and a BBA from Western Illinois University. He is a holder of the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and the Certified Treasury Professional designation.
